West African Group is committed to a sustainable future and thus conducts all our business with the objectives of REDUCE, REUSE & RECYCLE in mind.
These key points can be seen in every aspect of our business in some way or other. Our strategy is to partner with companies and communities to help drive true sustainable change.
All the products we offer are fully recyclable as we don’t believe in supplying materials that will add to the problem.
OUR FOCUS AREAS
Keeping with the basics but ensuring we do them WELL……
REDUCE
Reducing the amount of plastic that is consumed without sacrificing on quality is one of our key objectives. We actively look to use our extensive performance polymer portfolio to assist in developing solutions with our customers to make products that reduce the overall volume of plastic consumed.
REUSE
Reuse is top of mind when developing new products with customers as we strive to find solutions where articles can be used many times over. This keeps them out of the waste stream and reduces the amount of waste that needs to be processed.
We also try to educate people on the benefits of making use of reusable items instead of single use plastics.
RECYCLE
Recycling is a topic we are truly passionate about. We actively look to engage with recyclers in the industry and help develop new recycled materials and markets as well as look to see how we can incorporate recycle into existing products.
HOW WE INTEND TO ACHIEVE THIS
We have not perfected it yet, but we are working hard towards it. We believe in tackling the issue from the leaves to the roots. Here are some of the initiatives we are involved in…
We actively consult with all our customers to develop products that still deliver the highest standards demanded by each application but use the least amount of plastic. This is achieved through our performance polymer ranges of materials.
We have partnered up with numerous recyclers in the South African Market to help them improve the quality of recycled materials being offered. This leads to more recycled materials being added to products and helping build relationships between customers and recyclers.
West African Group has partnered with customers in the rubber industry and are developing new applications with recycled rubber crumb to develop new products.
We have helped customers go from using 100% virgin materials to 99% recycled materials in single use applications
West African Group have partnered with numerous NGO’s and private groups to do our part socially too. Our employees participate in numerous cleanup activities on beaches and in parks.
We are currently exploring initiatives in the catchment of waste in rivers to find preventative solutions before these articles find their way downstream. These initiatives also help create employment as an added social benefit.
